Latent space

← All terms · Image, video, audio AI

A compressed, mathematical representation of data where AI models process and manipulate concepts before expanding them back into human-readable text or images.

What it is

Models do not manipulate raw pixels or text; they convert them into multi-dimensional coordinates in a "latent space." In this space, mathematically close points represent conceptually similar things (e.g., the vectors for "cat" and "kitten" are near each other). Generating or altering an image involves navigating this compressed mathematical map.

When you would use it

You discuss latent space to explain how AI models logically map, blend, and transition between different concepts or styles during generation.
