Reverse proxy
Published Updated
What is Reverse proxy?
A server in front of your app that receives requests and forwards them to the appropriate app server.
A reverse proxy gives visitors one public entry point while forwarding requests behind it. For example, a shop can send /api/checkout requests to its checkout server and other requests to its website server. It can also handle HTTPS, the encrypted connection between browser and site. Some reverse proxies also balance load.
When you would use it
Use it to route public requests to private app servers or handle secure connections in one place.
Common operations
- Route requests by hostname or URL path.
- Configure encrypted HTTPS connections.
