Monolith
Published Updated
What is Monolith?
An application whose main features are built and deployed together as one unit.
A monolith can still have clean modules, meaning code grouped by responsibility. For example, a small shop can keep signup, catalog, and checkout in one application and release them together. It may run multiple copies behind a load balancer; monolith does not mean one physical server or poorly organized code.
When you would use it
Use it as a straightforward starting point when one team can maintain and release the app together.
Common operations
- Separate responsibilities into modules.
- Build and release the app as one unit.
